Today was a "10" in terms of fishing. We didn't get down to the lake until 7 pm. The fishing was awesome. NealPatrick continued to use the secret bait and this however, I didn't. I blitz him by catching 22 to his catch of just 12 crappies. I did give NP one last change to win our friendly fishing competition. I told NP that if he caught a large flat head catfish, I would crown him the victor of today's competition. I thought this was a safe bet, since it's normally the middle of May before these big fish show up.
Just before dark Neal Patrick set out two rods, with large shad on them. Immediately he got two large strikes, but wasn't able to set the hook quick enough. I ran back to get another reel for the "cats". I had this feeling, that the big fish were there. No sooner than I had cast out, NP got another huge strike and this time the hook was set. It was now dark and we needed some light to land the fish. I went back to the house, to get a lantern and by the time I returned, NP had all but landed the large fish. I netted the fish for him and then we took the picture you see here. NP returned the fish safely to the water, but with a big smile. These type of moments are priceless and what life is about, sharing those special moments with the ones you love.
It was great day for us both. Neal Patrick was all smiles. We didn't think the big fish would return until the end of May. I was happy for him and happy myself too, because we both caught a lot of fish. All this in less than one hour's time, 35 fish to be exact. It was perfect evening, with a beautiful sunset to match. On the way the home we heard current favorite song by Dierks Bentley "It's A Long Trip Alone"
