Gimp Selection Tools -Article
In my previous post I tried to explain to you briefly about the "selection tools" in Gimp's Toolbox. Ninety percent of everything I do with Gimp involves using one of these selection tools. The faster you can acquaint yourself with what each one does, the better off you will be in learning how to take full advantage of Gimp's photo editing powers. There are certain times you will use each selection tool and generally there will be one selection tool you will favor more. Mine favorite will vary from week to week. Sometimes I will use only the path tool, but then if I'm changing the color of a friends car, I'll use the "intelligent scissors". It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Some of these tools will allow you to move faster in the editing process.
The rectangular and elliptical selection tools for example don't require a lot of thought, however they may not be as precise for what you want to do. Then on the other-hand they may be very precise for photo manipulating specific areas in a photo when using the "Distort" filter(great for trimming off the fat of friends or making friends look a little fatter than they actually are)
There is an excellent Link of Gimp Selection Tools that can be found at http://goo.gl/FtP1S
