Memorial Fishing on Memorial Day
My son invited a few of his college friends down for fishing the last 2 evenings. Over the last few years my son and I have caught more than our share of "big fish" off our dock. Now we both get just as much pleasure from seeing others do the same. The enjoyment you see in them from landing one of our own "River Monster" is always priceless, whether the fisherman is a male or female. The last 2 evenings were no different. It's great to see that my son has learned the importance of sharing the moment. Most of the time he will hook 90% of the fish others catch and then hand the rod over to them for landing the fish. The only time it doesn't apply, is when handing the rod over, would mean giving it to me. I still let my son stand in, hook and land the fish when I'm on the dock. The day he hands the fishing rod to me, to do the same, I know he will finally get the complete concept that the real enjoyment is in the giving. Right now I'm very pleased with the man he is becoming to be. Over the last 2 evenings my son and friends landed over 150 pounds of fish on our dock. Not bad for an evening of grilling and fun with friends.
His friends smile in this picture is priceless. The flathead catfish was 4ft long. He had recently gone ACL surgery and it hurt me to see him limp. Any discomfort he had, vanished for few hours, especially after landing the fish you see here.
