Something to Read (one of my 4 s's for Christmas, thank you Paula)

I'm ashamed to admit that I only read one book in 2012 and did so in less than 2 days. Normally I read 6-10 books a year. If you have never read any of Baldcci's books, you will be amazed how he builds his characters. The author is very detailed in what he is writing about, so like in this adventure, the reader will get a firm grasp on what surface mining is about, plus all other things that tie in with the the investigation, even down to the neighbors on the street. I would say more, but I'm being careful not to reveal  any spoilers.

I had started reading the action  novel early Sunday morning and because of the holidays, I was able to finish it early Monday morning.  A quote by  Thomas Helm summed up my feelings about  the Novel I just read. Helm said  "My test of a good novel is dreading to begin the last chapter".  David Baldacci's  "Zero Day" certainly doesn't disappoint and has you guessing all the way.  Just when you think you finally figured things out, the story takes a whole new turn.

John Puller the crack army investigator is one of the Author Baldacci's new book characters. The decorated combat veteran is assigned the task to investigate a gruesome crime scene in rural West Virginia, because of the ties to the  Pentagon. Puller  assignment is unusual in nature, because he is the lone Army investigator. John Puller the soldier is determined to find the killer and his investigation is starting to reveal more than just 4 gruesome murders. The murder investigation will take him on a lot of unexpected twists and wondering who to trust. The ending will certainly surprise any reader.  I would certainly have to give it 5 stars.

Zero Day met my own test of a good read. That is a book you can't put down until the wee hours of the morning, even when you know you have to get up early the next day. The 436 pages took me on one amazing "who do you think done it" trip. It certainly didn't end the way I expected it to. I would say more, but once again, I want to be careful not to spoil it for you.

*call me old fashion, I still like reading my book in hardback form. I find they are just as cheap or cheaper than downloading to a reader. Plus when you are finished you can share it or give it to a friend a lot easier. Reading a book via a tablet will never cut it for me, some things from the past are worth holding on to.
