Bridge Burning Time

It's time to start another new year. What better way to start than "burn a few bridges from one's past".  One of my favorites sarcastic quotes is "May the Bridges I burn, light my way" and second favorite is the one you see pictured here.  I'm not the bridge burning type, but I'm more a "the bolt loosener".

I once read that a person can count on the right hand  how many "true friends they really have in life". The older I get, the more I have found this to be so true, even when it comes to family. Fortunately I have been blessed with a great family, however not every one is as lucky. Before loosening the bolts completely on family or family member, my advice is never take the bolts completely out. It is okay to loosen them and there are a lot of situations that call for it. Personal friends and business relationships are another thing. Don't hang on to people who don't stay in touch, chances are if they wanted to remain in touch they would have. With these it's okay to loosen the bolts completely, however if you wish you may leave them hanging  by a thread. This way you can re-tighten the bolt, but chances are it will never happen.

So at the end of 2012, take a look at your every day life friends.  Next take a look at your  Facebook, G+ and Twitter friends. The friends who haven't contacted you once during the year, need to have their bolts loosened. Personally I would un-friend or un-follow them. The ones in every day life, would be put into the category of "social friends"(which to me lets you know, they could never be counted on)  Anyone who doesn't  have time to say "hello" at least once a year or can only converse with you at an event, will never be a true friend. Both of you sharing details about each other's life on Facebook is nothing more than "humble bragging". If you aren't interacting with them, then you are just as shallow. Roads travel two directions you know, so what you give is a lot of times what you get.  Seriously, how hard can it be to type 5 characters to get a conversation started. Now for those into "Bridge Burning" you win my admiration, because it's something I find hard to do, unless it's buying gas from a company like BP.
