Even if I lose, I win

Some may wonder how this is possible.  Since I've returned to the fitness mode a few weeks back, I've been trying multiple ways to encourage myself to lose weight. I'm great at non-exercising, the other seems to require more effort from me.

One way I decided to kick-start that effort, was  to challenge a friend that is at least thousand miles away. The friend had to be already fit and not in need weight loss. This person also had to be equally competitive. Lucky for me the friend I chose  is Canadian where the winters can be harsh. The weather should prevent them  from getting outside a lot of days. If that's not the case, then  I'll get clobbered, since my competition has to do with our distance covered, not weight loss. When I walk  5k, they are running  5k  and even when lost, they will run more. Clearly I would be  no match in a foot race(unless it was a Zombie Apocalypse) and since I refuse to run(actually I'm recovering from a knee injury, from a water sport accident, that's  if like me you call pushing logs off the shore line a watersport). I'm embracing  my role of the tortoise(or Zombie) in this challenge. My only chance on catching them in distance covered, is the  hope that Old Man Winter will make things a little harsher up North this year. Hopefully they will opt to nap a few times on those cold wintery days.  One  certainly can't run very far in 4 feet of snow can they? I just hope they don't have snow shoes, however being Canadian, they probably got a set at birth.

While a challenge with my Canuck friend is fun, I need more to encourage me to stay on the path(walking path that is).  My goal is to lose weight, not to win a race against a friend(you know I want to win). This is why I've come up with another way to help me and it involves the NC Lottery.  Now one may wonder, " how in the heck can the NC Lottery help you lose weight?"  The answer to that question is that I'm using NC Lottery's "Scratch Off Tickets" as a reward system. Everyday  the Fast Food Drive Thru begs  me to eat with them(the force is strong with this one).  There is nothing good to be gained from eating fat food, so the challenge is to keep the car away from the darkside. I've decided every time I can do this I'll reward myself with a scratch off ticket. If I'm successful, I should be buying at least 3($5) tickets a week, anything I win I always give to my son(unless it's the $2500 for life).  I'm up $10 since I started yesterday and even if I lose in my run to Spring, I will end up wining by losing weight. This will result in a healthier me which after all is winning in the long run.  My odds of winning at these particular NC Lottery Scratch Off tickets are 1 in 4.25. These odds are a lot better than a lotto ticket with the prize of 100  million or the chances of me out distancing my Canuck friend.

*I decided my Scratch Off Ticket Reward needed to be tied to me walking the same day. Ride past the drive-thru while commendable, is not reward worthy by itself.  I  decided by adding the requirement of  walking or running  5k the same day, would justify the right for me to  buy a Scratch Off Ticket if I want one. Even if I'm entitled to 5 -7 tickets a week, chances are I'll only buy 2 or 3 at the most. (unused credits don't carry forward either)
