Golfing again

Well almost, if you count going to the driving range as golfing.  This was my first step back to a game I haven't played in 10 years.  I guess the main reason I haven't played golf in years is because of other outdoor interests.  Also those I could have played with on a regular basis take the game way to serious for me to enjoy.

My sister's new boyfriend invited me to play  next Friday . Personality wise he is a lot like me, however he is athletic as heck.  Newbie doesn't play golf much, however he has the skills to play. He plays once or twice a year and  shoots in the 70's.  I know people like me who can play a life time and never shoot in the 70's.  I'm a 90's player and when playing a few times a month the best I can do is mid 80's.  The thing I like about Newbie is he plays to have fun.  Like me, he would rather walk, which gives him a better feel for the game. This is what I like to do. Riding in a golf cart to me, is like those guys Spider fishing(12 poles in the water). They might have success with what they are doing but it's not the same. It's like kayaking with a motor or pedal power on your kayak(hobie kayak). It will be great to return to a sport I love so much. Hopefully I can return to playing tennis soon, since that is another sport he loves. I don't dare challenge him to basketball, since he had been drafted in the NBA. He's lights out when it comes to shooting.

I know score wise I will not beat him when we play, so my best chance is to challenge him  in match play(number of holes won). This way if I have a bad hole, I still have a chance of winning the next hole. I did beat him in putt putt, I was 2 under par for what it was worth. As a matter of fact I beat 3 others in our group.

Anyway I decided  to go to the practice range, so I wouldn't scare the hell out of people playing on the course. Surprisingly I hit the ball very well and very straight. I only hit a few bad shots, but overall I was pleased with the results. The 10 years away might have actually helped my game.
