There are probably a 100 plus short cut keys to use in Gimp and if you can memorize them all you win my admiration. Now if you are like me and your memory is about a tenth of what it used to be, you might try remembering just a few of the key ones I listed below.
Some great shortcut keys for your selection tools
* the undo and redo buttons are the very first one's to learn, ctrl z will help you undo the shortcut selections you are practicing with.
*Undo- Ctrl +Z
*Redo- Ctrl +Y
Rectangular Select- r
Ellipse Select - e
Free Select- f
Scissors- i (this is a great tool for selecting, it is not cutting out the object, only outlining it)
Path Tool b (why b instead of p? the p is used for painting)
** Special Notation
Ctrl Z works with most tools, however it will not undo the "free select tool marks" unless you have connected all the dots which displays the marching ants effect around your selection. If you only clicked a few dots and wish to remove your error, you will need to simply click on any of the selection tools from the "toolbox". This will immediately remove the selection you made using the free select tool. This is why I use the path tool, there are very few times I opt for the "free select tool".
