Fantasy Football Season Comes to an End

I started playing fantasy football a  few years ago with my son. We created our own league, so it's only comprised of two teams. I named my team  "Carolina Thunder" which identifies our home State. My son on the other hand named his team "the Psychosocials", which I'm sure is appropriate for any teenager.

Our fantasy games have always been very competitive, with the outcome  season's winner  determined by the last game. This year is different. Presently I'm  80 points down and it would take a miracle for me to even win. There are no playoffs in our Fantasy League, so my only hopes of tying or winning can only come through "Divine Intervention". "Dear God, please help the Carolina Thunder out in their hour of need....."

The idea of playing Fantasy Football seemed  silly when I started. Along the way I learned that while it's fun to play, there is even more fun in competing with your son. My son and I play Yahoo's "Salary Cap" football. This  doesn't require much time, there are no drafts. You simply choose 8 players( 1 quarterback ,2 running backs, 3 wide receivers, 1 Tight End, 1 Kicker)  and a Defensive team. You can play the same team each week, but it's advisable not to do so. Injuries and competition a player faces is a key factor in scoring points. My son and I have the rule neither of us can have the same player or defense. This makes the game competitive. Both of us could score higher without such rule, but our competition is not against others for leader-board rankings.

Winning doesn't matter that much to me, it's the enjoyment I get from playing the game with my son. I've seen his knowledge of players and the game grow immensely. For this I'm thankful, because the insight he has gained about  the game.  Both of us compete for the "fun of it". It's a time we can share and memory we can look back on.  This is why it's sad to see the season end and look forward to next year's rivalry.  Go Carolina Thunder!
