Digital Zoom vs Optical Zoom

I've been reading about the horrors of Digital Zoom. Most articles say the best thing you can do is turn it off. I'm still in love with my new camera a Fuji S700, which has both, a 48 x digital and 10 x optical. I did as suggested and left it turned off. It wasn't until I started playing around with the other camera features, that I decided to turn it on. Wow, what a pleasant surprise. I took a series of photos with and without. I thought the pictures were okay. I tried some at the lake yesterday and found them to just as good. The only think I did notice was extreme camera shake, once you snapped the photo the picture was fine. The camera picture however in the view finder was all over the place. I recommend using a tripod or propping your camera arm against a stationery object, to get the picture you want. The 48 x zoom is a blessings. I recommend toggling it on and off for those really long distance shots. The 48x zoom gave me shots that I could have never captured with the 10x zoom from where I was positioned. Here are some photos I took with the digital zoom, judge for yourself.
These are some photos I took while fishing with NP Monday night.

Optical Zoom Distance in feet, between 1500-2000 feet

Same Shot Digital 48x zoom, Distance in feet, between 1500-2000 feet.

This last shot was taken with the digital zoom, but only 200-300 ft away and I held the camera a little better. It's hard to hold still at a long distance, likc the pics above. I love my
my Fuji Finepix S700.
