I'm sure you have never heard anyone say the fishing was actually to good, but what I'm telling you is actually true. I was overwhelmed because of how active the strikes were. Normally I cast my ultra-light reel for crappie, while waiting for the big fish to bite, but each time I tried I had to lay the rod down.
Normally I'm never about me, I have always put others interest ahead of my own, this is one of the character flaws in my personality. My son, Neal Patrick had become a little to cocky fishing lately. It was time to bring him back down to earth and remind that he learned from me and it wasn't the other way around. According to him, I didn't know much about catching large fish.. I decided to prove him wrong and fish for the giants alone this time. NP doesn't come home until tomorrow, so I had to take pictures, to serve as testimony to my fishing abilities.
I got down to the lake about 7:30. I threw the cast net only once and caught 20 shad and 4 crappie. I released almost all the fish, except for 10 shad, which I used for my live bait. I cast out 4 reels in to the deep channel and in no time, I started getting strikes. We place bells on the end of our rod tips and the sound of bells filled the air. The fish were actually biting to quickly for one person to handle . Every time I was reeling a fish in, there were strikes on the other rods. I finally decided to quit after the 30 pounder. It was getting near dark and it is very difficult to land a large fish in the dark. There was no way to handle that many bites and not lose a large fish, with daylight disappearing.
Below you will see my half hearted photo attempt holding the camera, while trying to reel in a 10lb fish. I was lucky not to drop the camera in the water. One person can't do it all, when fishing for these large fish. NP will be back tomorrow and I will be relegated to "net man and photographer" status once again. I will be reminded of how I don't know how to catch big ones. This post is to remind NP, that I can catch the large ones, whenever I choose to do so. My point is proved by the photos below. Never the less I will be happy to be the "wing man" once again,
Next week my dad's best friend is bringing his 7 year old grandson to fish at the lake. I will make sure both of them lands one of these giants, before they return home. I love creating special memories for others. It's not about who gets the credit, it's about sharing in the joy together. I sorry for writing about me for once, but I needed to do this, to prove that I can catch a large fish. I just choose to watch my friends and loved ones do it instead. Life is not about Me.
