NP goes back tomorrow so it's always a sad day for me. Since school is out tomorrow, we decided to head to the lake this evening to fish. We started fishing early for once,(5PM). NP rigged for "the big cats" and I fished for the little guys "crappie". I caught 11 crappie in maybe 30 minutes. Every cast caught a fish, but then it died. I did manage to catch a large channel cat on my ultra light reel, which proved a good fight. NP thought I had a large bass and wanted to take over, I however refused his kind offer. I did that once before with him, which resulted in him reeling in a 39lb catfish.
All the fish I caught were were a good size, the largest being about 1.5 pounds. Most of my fish were similar in size to the one you see in the film loop below. The fish didn't bite long today. I think the window was open for perhaps an hour. This is somewhat typical in Spring fishing. Maybe too, it was because I had to help NP land a couple large catfish and lost my interest in the smaller fish. Neal Patrick's largest cat of the day weighed in around 20 lbs. We both fished until sun went down, however the cold temperatures, dampened our desire to fish much beyond sunset. We called night and headed home. It's been long day for the both of us, however it ended on a positive note.
I have to work half day tomorrow, however NP and I will head to the lake to fish for a little while before I take him home to his mom's in the evening. It will be cold once again, with the high predicted to be only 54 and a northwest wind of 10-15(this is tough because our dock faces northwest). Fishing wise it's been a great week, we've caught well over a 100lbs of fish, since NP got home. We are lucky and blessed in the fishing department. Neal Patrick is living every fisherman's dream. Only 14 years old and to have caught all the large fish he has caught, since last May is truly amazing.
