Meebo is a instant messaging service that is completely browser based. If you are like me, even the term "brower based" is still greek, so I will try to explain it to you in "layman terms".
Meebo presently is only for those who use Internet Explorer or Firefox.(these are two types of browsers, opera is another one)
The beauty of instant messaging with meebo is that one can do so from from any computer, almost anywhere, firewall or no firewall. Yes, you have to have to be on line. This is because Meebo resides on the web, not your computer.
Therefore, with Meebo, there is nothing to download or install on your computer. This way it doesn't take up additional memory like your other IM programs do. Meebo is quite simple, all you do is sign up for a Meebo "user name and password". This only takes a minute and unlike some IM's, Meebo doesn't require much information. Since Meebo integrates 5 different IM programs, there is no need to manually add any existing contacts. All of your contacts will be there when you log on. Presently Meebo works with AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, MSN and GTalk. Meebo is very similar to Trillian, another great program, which resides on your computer. If you are signed up with 2 or more IM services, Meebo and Trillian both will make your im-ing life easier. There is no longer the need to log on to each individual service. I still love Trillian, but Meebo is fast becoming one of my favorites also.
What does Meebo do for those at work? It just gives people the opportunity to IM friends, without having to install anything on the company computer. It works around most if not all firewalls, so you can IM your friends at anytime, but you please be careful, even though you operating in stealth, you shouldn't abuse employer's time.
