Today was the first day of school for NP. Looking back on the Summer, all I can say is that it was one of our best. This is kind NP will always hold close to his heart. It all started with our trip to "Duke Fest" . What a great kickoff for us and I have Rick to thank. We both had a wonderful time, even though it wasn't completely my cup of tea. The old sayings "it's not the destination" it's journey along the way is so true. Wow what a journey we had. I found at that "Bass Pro-shop is the center of the universe and all Cracker Barrels lead to it.
NP and I only fished for 30 minutes or so last night. Somehow we both sensed this was a the end of one fantastic run. The month June was one that we will hope to duplicate many times over in years come, but it will hard to do. I never caught the fish the size we did in 50 years, here NP did it at age 13. The cherry on the cake was the 42 pounder he caught on the 16th. That is when NP's fishing exploits became legendary, everyone was following our fishing stories with interest. I'm glad we had a camera and were able to share part of this fantastic summer.
July was a great month also. We always look forward to our week at Topsail and this year was no exception. We grew a little closer to each other and we created those special memories that we carry forward, even falling out the bunk bed. The term "McNasty" became a major part of our vocabulary for good. I will spare the details, because they are somewhat embarassing for yours truly.
August was a slow month for fishing, the desire was there, but the catches became fewer. We did however perfect our cast net skills and tried a few new fishing hook ups. NP had a wonderful birthday. Our family always makes any birthday event special. We are blessed to have such loving people in our lives.
Summer of 2006, while not officially over in our minds ends with the start of school today. This fall I'm not sure how much fishing we will actually do. NP has football and those weekday fishing trips will be gone.
I can't wait to see the dogwoods in bloom again, that is what started me writing about this particular blog. I just hope Summer 2007 will be even better for the both us.
